A bridge was already leading across the river in the early 11th century.
The original town hall, dating from the middle 14th century, was reconstructed by the
inhabitants after a catastrophical fire in 1440. Michael Küchel redesigned the town hall
(between 1744 to 1756) in Baroque/Rococo Style. Not only the wonderful architecture
captivates, but particularly the frescos, with their 3-dimentional vitality. Big picture
Little Venice
The once fisherman's settlement was lovingly named "Little
Venice" .Dating from the Middle Ages, these small, half-timbered houses, standing
side-by-side with their balconies and tiny front gardens, line the shores of
Regnitz. Big picture

"Gasthaus Stahl is a real gem of a place, in that
wonderful, scenic location up in the hills above the Rhine, in classic tiny Dellhofen
village, yet only minutes away from the walled cities of Oberwesel and Bacharach, right on
the river.
There are enough castles and other places of interest within 30-90 minutes of
pleasant driving to keep tourists busy for a long time, but the serenity of the inn itself
is the best feature.
The rooms are so classic, yet they have all the modern touches we need. The
furnishings and atmosphere of the inn are from times we thought had gone past, and it was
great to just soak in the gemutlichkeit! ... "

The old brick arch wine cellar
of the Winery Stahl, in which the wines are stored; the wine grapes
are self-grown and the wines are self-made. Wine tasting for groups up to 30 people in the
brick arch wine cellar. You'll become a romantic feeling with the lights off and set aglow
in candlelight. "The wine tasting at Weingut
Stahl is truly educational, with more varieties of flavorful German wines than most
Americans ever realize exist. I think that is worth the trip in itself."

Old part of town
The predominantly undamaged city center, with over 2,000 protected
historical buildings and monuments on approximately 250 hectares of land, makes Bamberg
one of the largest, interconnected medieval cities of Europe. The "Bamburger
Weg" , an established model for preservation and refurbishment of the
city, with
co-operation from other cities concerned with the preservation of historical monuments
(Regensburg, Lübeck, Stralsund, Görlitz, Meißen) and multiple means of building
preservation, won the city high-ranking acknowledgement. In 1993 the city of Bamburg was
admitted into the UNESCO list of "world culture and nature heritage of
mankind."

Cathedral
The "Kaiserdom" (Imperial Cathedral) of St. Peter and George can
be tracked back to an endowment from Emperor Heinrich II, who in 1007 founded the Bamberg
bishopric. In 1012 the first Cathedral was consecrated, though it later burned down. The
next construction began in 1237-at the rise of the Gothic period from the Romantic-and
gave the Cathedral her present character. Some of the most important attractions inside
the Cathedral are; the "Bamberger Reiter" (1230), the grave of Emperor Heinrich
II (past away 1025) and his wife Kunigunde von Tilman Rieman-schneider; the altar of Mary
from Veit Stoß (1523); the grave of Bishop Friedrich von Hohenlohe; and the grave of Pope
Clemens II. Big picture

Rose garden
The rose garden in the inner courtyard of the residence offers a
magnificent view. The garden is subdivided by a cross-shaped path. In the crossway of the
path lies a round fountain. Surrounded by trimmed lime trees and the delicate garden
pavilion (finished in 1757), approximately 4500 roses, in over 70 flower beds, spread
their splendiferous blossoms and fragrance about during the summer months. Big picture
