Cathedral
The "Kaiserdom" (Imperial Cathedral) of St.
Peter and George can be tracked back to an endowment from Emperor
Heinrich II, who in 1007 founded the Bamberg bishopric. In 1012 the
first Cathedral was consecrated, though it later burned down. The next
construction began in 1237-at the rise of the Gothic period from the
Romantic-and gave the Cathedral her present character. Some of the
most important attractions inside the Cathedral are; the
"Bamberger Reiter" (1230), the grave of Emperor Heinrich II
(past away 1025) and his wife Kunigunde von Tilman Rieman-schneider;
the altar of Mary from Veit Stoß (1523); the grave of Bishop
Friedrich von Hohenlohe; and the grave of Pope Clemens II.
